Hello Lancers & Lancer Families!

We have made it through two months of virtual learning and are almost halfway through our first semester of the 2020-2021 school year. I appreciate the partnership with you all and the support and grace you have afforded the La Follette staff.

We know virtual learning has been hard on students and families. We hear you, and we continue to grow and adjust to meet your needs. Our staff have been engaged in professional learning around how to create more engaging lessons in a virtual setting and how to support students communicating with one another in the live classroom. Additionally, we have worked to provide staff time on Wednesday afternoons to intentionally reach out to and work with students with Ds and Fs, as well as, teachers and students using Student Support Hours to connect and catchup on work and problem solve what may not be working well for the students right now.

As we continue to learn and grow as virtual educators, I want to highlight some of the great things happening at LHS:

  • Fall Festival Week: our student council planned a celebration and challenge for our students and staff to participate in the week of October 26th

  • 9th grade assembly: on October 22nd, Pride Guides (a group of our seniors) led a “Zoom assembly” for our 9th grade class

  • Family Q&A Nights: these are occurring biweekly and are a space available for you to get face to face time with our admin team, connect with other families, and ask your questions

  • Pathways: our 9th grade Health Services Pathways students zoomed with a set of 26 community partners to learn about the dimensions of wellness; in their small groups, students asked thoughtful questions and demonstrated strong engagement with the pathway theme

  • Post High-School Planning: with support from our counselors, ACP coordinators and English teachers, both our 11th and our 12th grade students have been working on plans for life after La Follette. News of the first #GoalAchieved acceptances for the Class of 2021 is starting to come in, and we could not be more proud!

Here are ways us to stay connected as we move through this virtual world:

  • Family (and Student) Q & A Session We will continue to host Question and Answer sessions every other Thursday night at 6:00pm. Our next session will be November 12th from 6:00pm-7:00pm, watch the Week at a Glance for the link.
