Dear Lancer Families,

As we start 2019, it is important to revisit our values and commitments, so that we build on a culture that supports learning and growth for all students.  It is important to us that every student feels welcome, safe, and supported at La Follette High School. Who we are as a community is defined by our core values, and how each individual acts in alignment with those values. I ask you to affirm your commitment to supporting an inclusive school, and see every student for the best they are, and the best they can be.

At La Follette High School, we have a vision for equity with excellence. We believe that each student can learn and grow, literacy is power, relationships and social-emotional learning matter, adult actions make a difference, and partnering with families is essential. Together we will disrupt inequities, through purposeful collaboration on culturally and linguistically responsive instructional practices.  As we celebrate and value cultural diversity, each student will take pride, feel a sense of belonging, have high academic achievement, and our class makeup and behavior data will be proportional to our student body.

We believe in the brilliance, creativity, capability of Black youth in Madison. It is our responsibility to pave the way for that excellence to shine. We know we don’t have all the answers, but we do believe we can learn from each other and improve together. Black excellence is our belief in our Black students, staff and families, anchored to our core values. We are committed to creating space for students, families, and community partners to come alongside us and define the strategies that will lift up our Black youth.

Our staff members are our greatest assets. They bring their full selves to work each day. They are committed to anti-racist, culturally responsive, and inclusive education. All of our work is focused on supporting students to learn and grow in a positive culture of learning. Our responses, interventions, and consequences are all in place to support learning. Thank you for partnering with us to help your child feel a strong sense of belonging and purpose in a safe and engaging school.

Sincerely,

Sean Storch
