A Message from Principal Sean Storch

Dear Lancer Families,

As we work hard to finish the school year strong, I'd like to share some positive news with you. Since winter break, our staff members have supported students to be on time to class, and as a result, the number of students who are always on time to class has increased significantly. This quarter, over 93% of our students have 0-3 tardies. We are very proud of our Lancers, and know that each and every student can meet our high expectations for being on time. Being on time supports learning and growth, and reinforces lifelong habits of disciplined success. We appreciate your partnership in making sure our students know that attendance matters!

As a next step, we will be working hard to make sure all of our students stay in class until the teacher dismisses them at the end of class, which is after the bell. This is called "Bell-to-Bell" learning. Read more about "Bell-to-Bell" learning here.

ASPIRE ASSESSMENT FOR GRADES 9-10

On Tuesday, May 2 and Wednesday, May 3, all La Follette High School 9th and 10th grade students will take the ASPIRE Assessment. MMSD will give students these state-mandated tests to determine student's instructional level and to measure academic growth in the areas of English, reading, writing, math and science. The ASPIRE tests align directly with the ACT test that is taken as an 11th grader, and provides a sense of where students are at in preparation for college and career. Schedule and more information here.

ARE YOU MOVING OR HAVE YOU MOVED THIS YEAR?

If you have moved or plan on moving outside of your school's attendance area prior to the first day of school, you may need to fill out an internal transfer application in order for your student to continue to attend the same school or feeder school for the upcoming school year. To find your new attendance area, use the Find Your School tool online or contact your student's school.

The Internal Transfer window opens May 1 and closes at 4 on May 19. We encourage you to apply during this first round to receive preference even if you are not planning to move until the summer. Everyone that applies during the first round will find out if they were approved or waitlisted by July 1. All other applications received after May 19 at 4 pm will be notified on August 31.

EXCELLENCE WITH EQUITY

Congratulations to our Pathways team who won the Pathways award at this year's Excellence with Equity Awards ceremony.

The awards ceremony offers an opportunity for us to recognize just some of the incredible work that is going on throughout our district. As in the past two years, staff nominated colleagues by describing their commendable expertise, dedication, innovation and commitment to their work on behalf of students.

Over 500 students were in attendance from 40 schools throughout Wisconsin. This year's theme, beieinander, füreinander, miteinander", meaning "side by side, with each other, for each other," celebrated collaboration and the importance of working together. Herzlichen Glückwünsch (congratulations) to all of our students who participated and represented our La Follette community at this event!
