Message from Chad Wiese, La Follette Principal

Lancer Families,

It is hard to believe there are only six short weeks left in our school year. I'm sure this is all the more true for our seniors, who have that time left in their high school careers. With that being said, there is so much yet to do as we wrap-up. I'm excited for the busy and memorable May that lies ahead.

I'm finishing this letter immediately following our prom pep rally. It was wonderful to see so many of our diverse and talented Lancers recognized for their accomplishments. Many of our students also had a chance to perform in front of our school community. Positive student voice and leadership made this event the success it was. Thank you to all of our planners for the work you did to ensure prom weekend will be a success. A special thank you to all the dedicated parents who have been so involved. Please encourage any students who plan on attending prom to make safe and responsible decisions all weekend.

In closing, this final stretch of the school year gives all of our students and staff an opportunity to finish strong. Contact our school if you have any questions or need support.

With Purpose and Pride,

Two Summer Writing Workshops
If you have a writer in the family who would enjoy an encouraging and fun environment in which to write and express him or herself this summer, look into these two writing workshops we have to offer. Pre-registration is required, so don't wait!
Best Wishes to Principal Wiese

As you probably know, Principal Chad Wiese will soon be trading his Lancer lanyard for a tool belt. As of July 1, Chad will be MMSD's Director of Building and Technical Services. He will oversee, among other big projects, the spending of recently-passed referendum funds.

Chad has been all-in during his ten-year tenure at La Follette. From 2005-2008, he was Dean of Students and then was head football coach from 2005-2007. From 2008-2011, Chad was assistant principal and he has been head principal since 2011.

Although we are sad to see him go, we are confident that the district will continue to be well-served by the ethical, committed-to-excellence focus that has served the Lancer community well.

Wanted: Student Letters of Accomplishment

The next time you are at La Follette, please take a look at the display cases lining the hallway outside the Student Services office. Those cases are filled with Lancer students' letters of accomplishment. The letters are accompanied by pictures of students and the staff members, identified by the students, who have really helped them during their high school career. Letters are for art awards, scholarships, college admissions, athletic accomplishments, etc.

If your son or daughter has a letter of accomplishment of any kind or receives one yet this school year, please encourage him or her to bring the original (in color if possible) to a school counselor in Student Services or to Ms Andrea Anderson in Room G13. Read more here >>>

Statesman Yearbooks Will Be Coming Soon!

Yearbooks will be here very soon. Students will have an opportunity to check posted lists around the school in late May to be sure they had ordered a yearbook at registration. If a yearbook was requested but not paid for at registration, the student will not be listed and will not have one reserved for them. All yearbooks must have been paid for in advance (prior to December 1, 2014) to have a copy reserved for them on distribution day in June. No payments will be accepted at this time for any reason.

There will be a limited number of books for sale at the end of the year and will be on a first come first serve basis on distribution day only. The cost of the book is $47 (cash only for year-end sales). We cannot guarantee that every student will have the opportunity to purchase a book if one was not reserved at registration.

2016 Seniors: Time for Senior Photos

Senior photographs for the 2015-2016 Statesman yearbook must be in the hands of the Statesman staff by Friday, October 2, 2015. If a photo is not supplied to the Statesman, your Lifetouch photo will be used in place of a supplied photograph (if the student had one taken at the beginning of the school year). We need one high resolution digital image (.tif or .jpg file) on a disk and one traditional wallet size picture of the same pose. See image specifications here >>

Attention 2016 Senior Athletes: If you want to wear your uniform for your senior picture, please pick up a form in the Athletic Office at least 2 weeks before appointment. YOU MAY NOT KEEP YOUR SPRING UNIFORM FOR PICTURES. They must be turned in and then reissued on the correct form for senior pictures.

2016 Senior Ads - Don't Wait!

Don't wait until the last minute to purchase your 2016 Senior Ad! There is no deadline but space is limited and sells out quickly! (last year space sold out in December). You may not reserve a spot without a complete order - so send in your completed senior ad now or over the summer to get a spot! Application form here.
