A Message from Principal Sean Storch
Dear Lancer Families,

Congratulations on completing another year of learning and growth! I am proud of our class of 2016 graduates, and proud of all of our Lancers who will be moving on up. Planning and preparations for next year are well underway, and I look forward to welcoming a new class of Lancers to La Follette and sharing our Lancer traditions with them.
I have some good news to share. We are on track to meet several of our school improvement goals, including increasing our graduation rates, reducing the number of students who fail courses, and supporting all of our learners to improve in literacy and math skills. We believe that our growth is a result of our hard work to support students to feel belonging and respect, and to challenge them to interact with each other's thinking. Our daily focus is on getting students to read, write, think, and talk with each other about rigorous texts. That is where true learning happens - together with other hard working Lancers.
I wish you all the best this summer. I know I will see some of you at summer school at La Follette, some at athletic events, and some at social events across the city. I'll be working hard over the summer with teams of Lancer teachers and school leaders to get ready for another successful year. You are always welcome to call or visit. La Follette is where you belong. Have a great summer!

Statesman Yearbooks Will Be Coming Soon!
Yearbooks will be here very soon. Students will have an opportunity to check posted lists in the Commons. If a yearbook was requested but not paid for at registration, or a partial payment was made, the student will not be listed and will not have one reserved for them. There will be a limited number of books for sale at the end of the year and will be on a first come-first served basis on June 2, distribution day only.
The cost of the book is $47, cash only. We cannot guarantee that every student will have the opportunity to purchase a book if one was not purchased at registration last summer or by December 18, 2015.
Spring Social Scramble - Golf Outing
Lancer Sports Marketing invites all Lancer families, friends, and staff to their Spring Social Scramble to benefit La Follette High School's Business, Marketing, and IT Department's Endowment Fund.

The fun begins on Friday, June 3 at 4:30 pm when the Traditional Golf begins. Foot Golf will start at 5:30 pm. The event will take place at Door Creek Golf Course in Cottage Grove. More information and registration sheet

Juniors Who Will Be Seniors - 2017 Grads
Parents, your 2017 seniors should have their pictures taken soon! Senior photographs for the 2016-17 Statesman yearbook must be in the hands of the Statesman staff by Friday, September 23, 2016. If a photo is not supplied to the Statesman, the student's Lifetouch photo will be used in place of a supplied photograph (if the student had one taken at the beginning of the school year). Please read this very important information about senior photos.
Note: If you have financial concerns with getting your senior a professional photo taken, please contact Donna Kennedy so we can arrange to have a professional photographer take your student's picture at La Follette in early September.

MSCR/CLC
It's hard to believe the school year is coming to a close. We have had a lot of fun this year! We offered 20 clubs after school varying from Homework Club to Henna Club to Anime Club to Hip Hop Dance. Throughout the year we served over 900 students duplicated. Most of our clubs have already come to an end but we will be offering Homework Club until June 7. We hope everyone has a relaxing safe summer!

2017 Senior Ads
Don't wait until the last minute to purchase your 2017 Senior Ad! There is no deadline but space is limited and sells out quickly! In years past we have sold out in December. You may not reserve a spot without a complete order - so send in your completed senior ad now or over the summer to get a spot! Application form here.
Congratulations Leading Lancers!
Every term La Follette students and staff select their peers who exhibit the qualities that make good leaders. For a student to be chosen as a "Leading Lancer" they must exhibit good citizenship, show accomplishments, have a positive attitude, and show academic success and/or improvement.
For staff, they must be noticed making learning interesting, showing sincerity and concern for students, having a sense of humor, and showing support for students' growth. Congratulations Leading Lancers! See the full list here.
Senior's Final To-Do List
The June issue of the Counselor Connection published by our School Counselors/Student Services staff includes advice for for all graduating seniors.

  • Set up a bank account
  • Get a job

Lancer PRIDE Breakfast Recognition
The following five expectations are very important for all of our students/staff to know and follow. Students are showing their Lancer Pride when they are engaged in learning, participating in curricular as well as extracurricular activities, being on time, showing up ready to learn, and exhibiting positive behavior. At the end of each term we recognize students who exhibit Lancer PRIDE.
  • P is for Personal Responsibility: To be accountable for actions, choices and the results.
  • R is for Respect: To show consideration, appreciation, and acceptance.
  • I is for Integrity: To be honest, sincere, and kind in words and actions.
  • D is for Determination: To set goals and meet expectations.
  • E is for Excellence: To strive to do the best at all times.
Congratulations to students who met the criteria for Lancer Pride 3rd Term. See a complete list here.
All Gender Bathrooms Now Provided at LHS
Schools are expected to provide protections for students to use bathrooms that correspond with their gender identity. We are proud that our staff and students have a plan that provides students additional space to use at LHS.

Two LHS bathrooms have been transitioned into All Gender Bathrooms. One bathroom will be an All Gender Bathroom for staff, and the other will be an All Gender Bathroom for students. Both bathrooms will be for single person use.

These all-gender bathrooms may be used by all students, according to Madison Metropolitan School District and Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines. Transgender students, just like all La Follette students, have the right to use this bathroom OR to use the gender-specific bathroom that corresponds to their gender identity.
