Lancer Families,

As I write my final monthly update at La Follette, I have an opportunity to reflect on the last ten years I've spent as a Lancer. If there is a single thing I've grown to appreciate as a staff member here, it is the amazing people I've encountered each step of the way. This hasn't changed over the last decade. If anything, the people who make up this great community school are as talented and dedicated as they have ever been.

Our diverse student body continues to impress me with their immense talents, resiliency and growth. Our staff members are the heart and soul of La Follette High School. They have shown us all that adult actions do matter and have promising student achievement results to prove it. I just received a new set of data this month proving this point yet again. La Follette's four-year graduation rate for the 2014 graduating class was 86%, this is up from 77% in 2009. This was the greatest growth in the district. Lastly, I have been amazed by our families and generous community members who continue to support our school in new and innovative ways.

I could not be happier to welcome Sean Storch as the next Principal of La Follette High School. Sean is a La Follette graduate and former Lancer teacher. I worked with Sean as a football coach and member of our English department when I started at La Follette as a Dean of Students. Sean is a student-centered, energetic, brilliant educator. I wish him the very best.

I look forward to my favorite event of the year, graduation on the evening of June 12th. Nothing compares to honoring our seniors for their years of hard work at La Follette and celebrating all their successes and growth.

In closing, I'd like to thank each and every one of you for the support you have given me. It has been on honor to serve your families.

Statesman Yearbooks Will Be Coming Soon!

Yearbooks will be here very soon. Students will have an opportunity to check posted lists around the school in late May to be sure they had ordered a yearbook at registration. If a yearbook was requested but not paid for at registration, the student will not be listed and will not have one reserved for them. All yearbooks must have been paid for in advance (prior to December 1, 2014) to have a copy reserved for them on distribution day in June. No payments will be accepted at this time for any reason.

There will be a limited number of books for sale at the end of the year and will be on a first come first serve basis on distribution day only. The cost of the book is $47 (cash only for year-end sales). We cannot guarantee that every student will have the opportunity to purchase a book if one was not reserved at registration.

La Follette HOSA Goes to Nationals

In April, 15 La Follette HOSA members attended the WI State HOSA Leadership Conference at the Chula Vista in the WI Dells.  The competitors chose Medical Math, Medical Terminology, Nursing Assistant, Veterinary Science, Human Growth and Development, Researched Persuasive Speaking, Extemporaneous Health Care Poster, and Sports Medicine.

Four La Follette competitors placed in the top 3 in 6 categories and have "won" the right to go to the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, CA. in June. Julia Villegas will compete in Nursing Assistant, Avery Kuhlow in Veterinary Science, Ashley Wollack in Medical Math and Danielle Wendricks in Human Growth and Development. Good luck Lancer HOSA!

Lancer PRIDE Breakfast Recognition

The following five expectations are very important for all of our students/staff to know and follow. Students are showing their Lancer Pride when they are engaged in learning, participating in curricular as well as extracurricular activities, being on time, showing up ready to learn, and exhibiting positive behavior. At the end of each term we recognize students who exhibit Lancer PRIDE.

  • P is for Personal Responsibility: To be accountable for actions, choices and the results.
  • R is for Respect: To show consideration, appreciation, and acceptance.
  • I is for Integrity: To be honest, sincere, and kind in words and actions.
  • D is for Determination: To set goals and meet expectations.
  • E is for Excellence: To strive to do the best at all times.
Students meeting the four requirements below were recognized at a Lancer PRIDE breakfast on Friday, May 8th in the LHS cafeteria. We are proud of you. Go Lancers!
  • 2.5 and above grade point average
  • no major behavior incidents
  • no unexcused absences, and
  • 3 tardies or less
Congratulations to students who met the criteria for Lancer Pride 3rd Term. See a complete list here.

2016 Seniors: Time for Senior Photos

Senior photographs for the 2015-2016 Statesman yearbook must be in the hands of the Statesman staff by Friday, October 2, 2015. If a photo is not supplied to the Statesman, your Lifetouch photo will be used in place of a supplied photograph (if the student had one taken at the beginning of the school year). We need one high resolution digital image (.tif or .jpg file) on a disk and one traditional wallet size picture of the same pose. See image specifications here >>

Attention 2016 Senior Athletes: If you want to wear your uniform for your senior picture, please pick up a form in the Athletic Office at least 2 weeks before appointment. YOU MAY NOT KEEP YOUR SPRING UNIFORM FOR PICTURES. They must be turned in and then reissued on the correct form for senior pictures.
